The present lot was used as a design feature of OMEGA boutiques as a Seamaster or Speedmaster sculptural display.
Engraver Jean-Pierre Borle conceived the famed seahorse or "hippocampus" logo used by OMEGA beginning in circa 1958 for use on the case backs of Seamaster and Speedmaster watches. Borle found his inspiration in the city of Venice, specifically an image of Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, driving a chariot pulled by seahorses. The image was adopted by OMEGA in 1958 to represent the water resistance. The present sculpture as well as those featured on watch case backs show the seahorse with bridles, which is in line with the mythological depiction.
Measuring approximately 12 inches high, this display proudly and masterfully evokes this historical logo and would be an unusual and
rare addition to any collection.
