A perpetual chronograph watch combines two of the complications which most fascinate collectors and enthusiasts. This is due to a number of reasons. Historically, such timepieces have been among the first serially produced highly complicated watches. The perpetual calendar is one of the most useful features a watch can offer for everyday life, while the chronograph is regarded by many as the "original" complication, allowing to time an event, thus answering the most basic of the horological human needs - beyond of course knowing the actual time. Last, but not least, the wealth of information provided by these two complications is always a challenge for the watchmaker, a challenge which, however, when met gave birth to some of the most exquisitely balanced and readable dials ever designed.

Vacheron Constantin's take on the subject is the present timepiece: a modern, elaborated but at the same time extremely elegant case and dial design. The design, indeed, incorporates and flawlessly blends modern elements together with an undertone of tradition. The sculpted lugs are obviously inspired by the historical Vacheron Constantin lugs of the 1940s and 1950s, although reinterpreted with contemporary flair. The hinged case back is an homage to the military cases of the first half of the past century, while the glazed display dust cover is much more typical of modern horology. The dial design is extremely balanced and classic, and the dagger numerals impart a hint of modern aggressiveness to it.
