Rumelihisarı (also known as Roumeli Hissar Castle) is a fortress in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul, on the European side of the Bosphorus. The complex architectural structure of the castle was strategically built by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II between 1451 and 1452 to monitor the traffic in the Bosphorus strait.

Another painting by the artist depicting the same subject is in the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Genoa.
