poète Catalan. Il rencontra Picasso à Barcelone lorsqu’ils étaient tous deux jeunes artistes en devenir au début du XXe siècle. Leur amitié dura quarante ans pendant lesquels Sabartés dédia sa vie professionnelle à Picasso, comme secrétaire, responsable de l’organisation de ses archives et de ses expositions.
Jaime Sabartés Gual, wittily depicted by Picasso in lots 3 and 5 of this sale, was a Catalan sculptor, writer and poet who met Picasso when they were both young up-and-coming artists in the Barcelona scene around 1900. Their relationship would span forty years, with Sabartés eventually devoting his professional life to Picasso in the role of his secretary, responsible for maintaining his archives and organisation of his exhibitions.
