With Patek Philippe fitted presentation box and Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial, raised yellow gold indexes and gold hands in 1945 and its subsequent sale on 17 October 1946.
Presented at auction for the first time in twenty five years, this cherished example of the much-coveted but rarely obtainable reference 530 is from the “wide lugs” series. Made in extremely small numbers by master case maker Georges Croisier, the wide 21.5 mm lugs combined with the 36.5 mm case give a bolder more masculine feel to the model. In addition to the case number, the interior of the back is also punched with number “1” showing that this watch was the first example of the particular batch to be made. The silvered dial is absolutely classic for the reference with gold Roman and baton numerals and tachometer scale. Naturally, the movement is the famous caliber 13’’’130, recognized by serious collectors as perhaps the best manually wound chronograph movement made in the mid-20th century.

The diameter of the reference 530 never fails to impress, it is certainly one of the most exclusive and attractive classic period watches a connoisseur can aspire to. Examples of such high quality, like the present watch are considered trophies and offer everything watch collectors define as paramount: timeless style, superb mechanics, exclusivity and condition.
Introduced to the market in 1937, it is one of Patek Philippe's rarest chronograph wristwatches. This celebrated model is the larger version of the better known reference 130, Patek Philippe's classic chronograph. Reference 530 however is characterized by its larger diameter overshadowing its smaller sister model by almost 4 mm.
Reference 530 Wide Lugs 21.5 mm
Georges Croisier, one of the best case makers of the period, made the superbly proportioned cases of the reference 530 model in either yellow gold, pink gold and stainless steel. There are two quite distinct variations of case style, the difference being the distance between the lugs of either 19 mm, called “Tonneau” and 21.5 mm, called “Calatrava”. The 21.5 mm “Calatrava” version seen in the present watch is exceedingly rare with only approximately 10 examples known in either yellow gold, or steel. There are no known examples in pink gold. The 21.5 mm model is almost equally as rare in production numbers as the stainless steel reference 530.
