The Cartier “pebble” model is extremely rare, it is almost unheard of for an example to be offered publically at auction. Only six examples are thought to have been produced, five in yellow gold, one example in white gold. The present watch, the property of the original British owner, is in excellent condition having been subject to a complete service by Cartier in 2015 whilst retaining the original beautifully mellowed dial. Furthermore, it is sold with the Cartier gold-tooled red morocco fitted box. In common with the best Cartier watches of the period, this watch was hallmarked in London and sold through the London branch, indeed, both the watch and the gold deployant clasp have matching London hallmarks for London 1973 further attesting to its originality and integrity.
In the U.S.A. this model is known as the "baseball" as the dial shape is reminiscent of the shape of a baseball pitch.
