With Universal Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present timepiece in 1941.
Distinguished by its stunning condition, both of case and of dial, the present piece is an example of three counters Universal chronograph. Its most attractive feature is the Hermes signature on the dial. From the mid-1930s, the watch house of Universal, Genève was employed by Hermès as the brand’s first and exclusive designer of timepieces. Chronographs were made in both 18K gold and stainless steel and lady’s cuff watches in 18K gold, platinum or stainless steel. The dials were signed either as Hermès or Hermès Universal Genève. The Hermès/Universal partnership lasted until into the 1950s. Today watches signed Hermès are extremely scarce, and among the most sought-after rarities in the world of vintage watch collecting.
