‘For Richter, the squeegee is the most important implement for integrating coincidence into his art... a moment of surprise that often enables him to extricate himself from a creative dead-end, destroying a prior, unsatisfactory effort and opening the door to a fresh start’ (D. Elger, Gerhard Richter: A Life in Painting, Chicago 2009, p. 251).
As a publisher of highly respected and widely known artists editions and books Parkett has developed a singular way of collaborating directly with significant and compelling artists for over three decades. Next to the artists’ involvement in the selection of authors, pictures and the design, they all contribute a signed and numbered edition, which may take any form, from prints, objects and installations to unique works of art such as Gerhard Richter’s project for Parkett vol. 35. With his decision to make this group of original paintings, which build an imaginary whole, he created unquestionably the most spectacular edition in the history of the publication.
To date 250 artists have been featured in-depth each with 3-5 texts by renowned authors. With 250 art works and soon 100 books Parkett’s thirty year project has become both a a small museum and a large library of contemporary art. The works have been widely exhibited in major museums and institutions around the world including New York, Paris, London, Zurich, Beijing, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and other cities (see detailed list above).
