Born Shawn Corey Carter in 1969, Jay-Z was raised by his mother in the precarious areas of Brooklyn. Using Hip-Hop as a mean of escape from violence and criminal activities, Jay-Z gradually emerged as the icon that he is today. After releasing internationally acclaimed albums such as Reasonable Doubt, The Black Album, Blueprint 3 and more recently Watch The Throne, Jay Z became one of the world’s best-selling artist of all time, with more than 100 million records sold, while receiving many musical awards and nominations.
Avid art and watch collector, Jay-Z collaborated with Audemars Piguet in 2005 to create the present Royal Oak offshore, limited to only 50 examples and celebrating the 10th year anniversary of the singer in the music industry. Sold only through Audemars Piguet’s New York flagship boutique, the present wristwatch was heavily influenced by Jay-Z, bears a diamond-set numeral at 10 o’clock and his engraved signature to the case back. The wristwatch is furthermore offered with an Ipod engraved with the facsimile signature of the singer.
