Ralph Jentsch has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

While Grosz loved and embraced life in America, one can never forget the circumstances under which he made the decision to leave his home. The many refugees who had to flee from the extreme repression of freedom of expression, not to mention those who had to flee to save their lives and the lives of their families, are embodied in this self portrait of the artist with his two children.
