etching, 1778, on laid paper, watermark Double-Headed Eagle (see Heawood 1317, dated circa 1772), a very good impression of the first/second state (of four), with the fine burin lines to the folds of the young man's cape and to the door frame above the woman's head still visible, trimmed into the text border but underneath the artist's address below, otherwise trimmed inside the platemark but retaining a fillet of blank paper, the lower right corner made-up, three short repaired tears at the edges, other minor defects
