The present set of four wristwatches is number 3 in a limited edition of 25 examples ever produced. The iconic Reverso model is offered here but with an intriguing difference, the four watches represent the four seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.
Alfons Mucha (24 July 1860 – 14 July 1939)
The enamel scenes to the cover of each watch are imagined and painted by Alfons Mucha, a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist. His artwork is wonderfully distinctive, a signature can be seen to the bottom right corner of each scene. With delicate detail, the seasons are an allegory, portrayed with a woman surrounded by her dress and foliage that represent the colors of the season. For example, Spring is depicted as a woman with light blonde hair, a light colored flowing dress and various shades of green grass that covers the majority of her background. The darkest color is limited to the top right corner as if the new fresh season is pushing away the darkness in favor of a new beginning. Similarly, Summer is depicted with the colors that one would associate with that season, the female's hair is a burning red, the sky is blue and the foliage is yellow which reminds us of bright sunshine and warm endless days. It is clear to see why Jaeger-LeCoultre chose to reproduce this artist for their special edition set, his talent for perception and level of astonishing detail is limitless.
