The present ref. 6536/1 is preserved in very attractive original overall condition, the dial is unrestored, the case shows strong proportions and well-defined edges to the lugs. The crown is the correct version, featuring the cross symbol surmounted by the Rolex logo. The bracelet dates from 1957.
The watch is furthermore sold with a set of period accessories, all rarities by themselves, including the Rolex anchor. These anchors were attached to every Submariner to signify that the model was pressure-proof to the indicated depth.
Reference 6536/1
Reference 6536/1 and its brethren 6536 were in production for a short time between 1955 and 1959. Both feature the new calibre 1030 movement, cases without crown guard and a 6 mm. crown. Ref. 6536 has a slightly thicker case and slightly smaller dial diameter than ref. 6536/1. The bezel of early models had minute markers in 10-minute intervals and a red triangle, later series the minute markers for the first 15 minutes. No certainty exists on why two such similar models have been sold at the same time. It is speculated that the more robust reference 6536 was targeted to a more professional market and the slenderer 6536/1 to the public at large.
