Each vase boldly painted in bright enamels with three mythical beasts standing on rocks on a ground of crashing waves, the lower necks decorated with a pattern of scrolling tendrils set with flower heads including lotus and pomegranates, beneath bands of ruyi heads hung with auspicious emblems below the mouth rim, previously with Ford Inventory Nos. D-14-a and D-14-b
The taller: 19 ½ in. (49.5 cm.) high

The present vases may be compared to the single vase originally in the Morgan Collection and later in the Collection of John D. Rockefeller Jr. (1874-1960), deaccessioned in 1960 from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and sold at Christie's New York on 15 September 2016, lot 873.
