Pieter Snijers studied painting under Alexander van Bredael. He was accepted as a master in the Brussels guild in 1705 and in the Antwerp guild in 1707. Snijers is best known for his still lifes, in which he enjoyed artistic experimentation, never repeating the same composition twice (A. van der Willigen and F. Meijer, A Dictionary of Dutch and Flemish Still-life Painters Working in Oils, 1525-1725, Leiden, 2003, p. 185).

We are grateful to Dr. Fred G. Meijer for endorsing the attribution on the basis of photographs.
