Launched in 1963 and available until 1976, reference 6239 was available in stainless steel and 18k gold. Its solid bezel engraved tachymeter scale, reference 6239 has been seen with a variety of interesting and important dials, including the “Paul Newman” dial, standard silver and black, as well as some dials which have been seen in only very small batches.
Bearing a 2.00 million serial and dating from 1969, the present lot features a rare dial seen only within a small range of serial numbers and known to collectors as the “blue” Daytona due to the 'light blue' Daytona signature above 6 o’clock register. Scholars agree that a defect in the paint used for printing “Daytona” resulted in the change in color over time. An iconic watch in excellent condition with a wonderful detail on the dial will ensure that this watch will forever remain on the Daytona collectors ‘must have’ list.
