Released in 2000, the Rolex Daytona Reference 116520 had a long production period of 16 years. It highly resembles it predecessor with some important upgrades. Beginning with the movement, Rolex Caliber 4130 powers the wristwatch, and is the brands first inhouse chronograph movement. It replaces the beloved Zenith-based caliber, and can be identified with the seconds register moving from 9 o’clock to 6 o’clock. The new movement has less parts than its predecessor, allowing for easier serviceability while also increasing the power reserve from 54 to an impressive 72 hours.
The white dial, steel case, and steel bracelet give the watch a sleek appearance and handling. The iconic red “DAYTONA” text is present above the 6 o’clock register, and is a pleasing contrast to the watch’s aesthetic. The timepiece has a screw down crown and pushers to help ensure Rolex’s guarantee of 100 meter water resistance.
