As the name suggests, the Rolex Day-Date was the first wristwatch to covet a day and date indicator. Launched in 1956, the iconic model quickly became the flagship of the brand, almost exclusively only being constructed in precious metal. Precise engineering and ingenuity helped the watch surpass its competitors by instantaneously changing day and date at midnight. The Day-Date is often referred to as “President,” due to the bracelet, and symbolizes excellence. It has and will continue accompanying the wrists of the most important and influential people in our society.
The present lot Reference 228239, is a fantastic example of a contemporary Day-Date from Rolex. The case is 40mm and crafted from white gold. The bracelet is also constructed from 18k white gold and has a great heftiness in-hand. The dial is olive green and compliments the subtle, low-profile of the precious wristwatch. The white gold Roman indices are applied to the dial, and have a surprising height to them. They are razor-sharp and polished, allowing for ample light reflections while adding depth to the dial.
