Introduced in 1976, the design of the Patek Philippe Nautilus was inspired by portholes found on maritime vehicles. The original Reference 3700 was constructed with a monobloc case, replicating the way portholes were opened on vessels.
The present lot, Reference 5712G-001 is a contemporary wristwatch crafted from 18k white gold. The case has a standard 3 part construction, rather than the original monobloc case. This allows for easier serviceability and a sapphire case back to view inhouse Caliber 240 PS IRM C LU. The timepiece has an attractive asymmetrical dial configuration to display the date, moon phases, power reserve, and running seconds. The dial is signed “Tiffany & Co.” near 5 o’clock, adding to the desirability and collectability of the present lot. The 40mm watch is fitted on a strap, making it suitable to wear in a broad array of circumstances.
