Purchased new in 2000 by its original owner and has been regularly serviced by Patek Philippe throughout its 20 year history, this attractive stainless steel Nautilus reference 3800 is fitted with a rare slate grey sunburst dial with white painted Arabic numerals - dial reference no. 271 NE10 (referred to by collectors as "the telephone dial" on account of such design being reminiscent of a rotary dial used on old telephone handsets) which, at the request of the owner, replaced the original dial pursuant to a Patek Philippe workshop service, as confirmed by an Extract from the Archives. The replaced dial can be considered an enhancement given its rarity.
Within the reference 3800 family, different dial options were offered in precious and non-precious metals. In stainless steel, the dial options typically seen are black-blue with baton markers or black with applied roman numerals. With the present dial option, the character and aesthetic of the watch is completely changed, giving it an overall Art Deco and bold appearance. The present lot in stainless steel with rare dial option seldom appears in public and represents a unique opportunity for the avid collector or those looking for an unusual and rare stainless steel 3800.
