The flaring conical trumpet with gadrooned rim, chased and engraved throughout with scrolling foliage, flowerheads, and rocaille cartouches, the lower cartouche with a presentation inscription, with two suspension rings, marked on lower body W. ADAMS and NEW YORK

Augt. 10th 1857
After previously holding various other official positions in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Louis T. Bourie (1828-1903) was selected as the first fire chief of the city's newly organized fire department, serving from 1856-1858, and again from 1862-1864.
