We are grateful to Giuseppe Porzio for pointing out that this work is by the Neapolitan painter Giuseppe Di Franco, an artist working in the circle of Artemisia Gentileschi in the mid-seventeenth century. The picture is published in Artemisia Gentileschi a Napoli, exh. cat., Naples, 2022-23, pp. 36-37, fig. 7.

Little is known about the enigmatic Giuseppe di Franco. There was a payment recorded between Franco and Artemisia Gentileschi in September of 1652 and he likely worked closely with Onofrio Palumbo.
