Depicting one of the artist's favorite subjects—the egg—the present work is a striking example of John Graham's experimentation with texture within his abstracted still lifes. "About 1930 Graham began to experiment with the inclusion of other media. He mixed sand with oil paint, for example, and this Abstraction is one of the first of these works."
