Part of an Important Private Collection, the present timepiece is a very well preserved representative of the Daytona reference 6263, featuring the very coveted black Sigma dial with the attractive big red 'Daytona' script and contrasting subsidiary registers. Its name derived from the bright red 'Daytona' designation, a most popular model in today's market.
The case displays sharp edges, crisp and legible serial numbers. The pushers are the original version, highly sought-after by the most astute collectors as often replaced during services. Its rarity and unique design elements make it a coveted timepiece for enthusiasts and collectors seeking one of the rarest variations of the reference 6263.
Sigma dial
Chronographs were bestowed with the Greek symbol 'Sigma' to the bottom of their dial on each side of the 'T Swiss T' signature in the mid-1970s; showcasing the union of the three Rolex dial makers: Singer, Stern and Beyeler, following the guidelines set by APRIOR (Association pour la promotion industrielle de l’or, Association for the industrial promotion of gold). The symbol indicates that the applied baton numerals and hands were crafted of gold, in this instance white gold.
Reference 6263
Over the years, reference 6263 has become one of the most sought-after Rolex models. Introduced in 1969 as the sister reference of the 6265, it replaced the first Oyster chronograph, reference 6240. Fitted with the upgraded caliber 727 as well as screw down pushers enhancing its waterproof abilities, it bears the 'Oyster' designation on the upper-half of its dial and differed from the 6265 through its black bezel graduated to 200 units. The defining feature of the reference is undeniably the presence of the screw down pushers, which make the entire watch look larger, more sporting and masculine.
