Richard Lloyd
International Department Head
Richard Lloyd is the International Head of the Prints & Multiples department, overseeing more than twenty auctions per year. He began his career as a junior specialist at Phillips in London in 1989, before moving to Christie’s in 1998, where he rose to become International Head in 2007. He relocated to Christie’s New York in 2012.
Richard has been responsible for some of the most noteworthy Print auctions of the last two decades, from Old Masters (Rembrandt 400, Albrecht Durer: Genius of the German Renaissance; Graphic Masterpieces by Goya), to modern and contemporary (Hockney on Paper; Warhol 10 x 10 and Thiebaud from Thiebaud). In addition he has overseen sales which established world auction records for prints by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Edvard Munch, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Miro and many others.
Aside from his work in the field of live auctions, where he is the principal auctioneer for the department, Richard is also a key member of the team pioneering Christie’s move into the digital arena. During his tenure the department has held a string of successful online sales, featuring work by Murakami, Matisse, Stella, Picasso, Warhol and Chagall. He is also responsible for major private sales to collectors and museums around the world.
