Sale Overview

Christie’s Amsterdam is excited to present 20th/21st Century: Amsterdam, an online-only auction live for bidding from 8-22 November.

20th/21st Century: Amsterdam brings together an exciting selection of works by leading international artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, including works on paper, paintings and sculpture. Paintings by Karel Appel, Isa Genzken, Per Kirkeby and William Copley encapsulate the diverse approaches to visual representation on canvas that artists have taken during the last 80 years. Sculptures by Thomas Houseago, herman de vries, Pablo Atchugarry and Harold Cousins broadcast the vast array of the medium, from small to monumental, from bronze to marble and wood, and from robust to fragile.

Heinz Mack’s Dynamische Struktur Schwarz leads a grouping from Le Jeune, A Collecting Legacy. Assembled over three generations by Jacqueline and Mark Le Jeune and their descendants, the collection reflects a deep passion for the arts and close relationships with living artists in Belgium and abroad. Other highlights from the collection include works by Otto Piene, Nam June Paik, Walter Swennen, Panamarenko and Francis Alÿs.

The auction concludes with the sale of fourteen works from the AIR program at the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam. To support the local art scene, The Grand welcomed various artists, all with their unique discipline, ranging from writing and sculpting to graffiti and fashion design. A selection of fourteen artworks is being sold to benefit the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. The Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds aims to encourage inspiration, purpose, and social interconnection for everyone in The Netherlands by investing in cultural projects together with its partners. The Cultuurfonds supports and helps realize projects of cultural organizations and artists by raising funds and handing out awards for outstanding work.

The online sale will be open for bidding 8-22 November. Highlights from the sale are on view alongside the Le Jeune, A Collecting Legacy: The Amsterdam No Reserve Edit sale.
