20th/21st Century: Evening Sale Including Thinking Italian, London
Sale Overview
Christie’s London will host its 20th/21st Century: Evening Sale Including Thinking Italian on 15 October 2021, featuring masterworks from some of the leading artistic voices of the past century. Following on from our highly successful June 2021 season, which saw numerous records broken for both established and emerging figures, the sale highlights the formal, thematic and historical conversations that have inspired artists internationally during this dynamic period. Cecily Brown’s bold reimagining of pastoral painting—sold to benefit the collaborative Artists for ClientEarth initiative—complements Peter Doig’s shimmering vision of landscape and memory. A major work by David Hockney showcases the groundbreaking optical explorations of one of Britain’s greatest living artists. Post-war Italian art is seen at its most adventurous in an important Mappa by Alighiero Boetti, while radical figurative works by Jean Dubuffet and Wols capture the rich existentialism of mid-century Paris.
