Keeping His Course and Study for ‘The Runaway’ by Norman Rockwell were the top lots of the sale, selling well-above their high estimates and underscoring the artist’s continued reputation as one of the most prominent American illustrators. Western paintings also did particularly well, with Edgar Alwin Payne’s La Marque Lake, High Sierra selling for $80,500, doubling its pre-sale estimate.
