Sale Overview

Aligned with Christie’s 20th/21st Century Week in New York, the American Art department is thrilled to present a curated auction of 20th-century American paintings, works on paper and sculpture on 18 November. Featured within the sale is Modern Icons: Property from an Important Private Collection, including highlights such as Arthur Dove’s Sunset and Thomas Hart Benton’s Keith Farm, Chilmark. Other leading American Modernist painters represented in the auction include Edward Hopper, Milton Avery, Stuart Davis, Marsden Hartley, Walt Kuhn, Charles Burchfield and John Marin. The sale also features works by prominent African-American artists, such as Richmond Barthé and Jacob Lawrence, as well as noteworthy examples of American Illustration by Maxfield Parrish and N.C. Wyeth. Following Christie’s sale of The Cox Collection: The Story of Impressionism, the American Art auction will also include paintings by some of the most celebrated American Impressionists such as Childe Hassam, Maurice Brazil Prendergast and Frederick Frieseke.
