Art Impressionniste et Moderne

Sale Overview

Exceptional discoveries mark this sale, starting with a splendid oil on canvas by Camille Pissarro, Femme poussant une brouette, Éragny. Executed in 1890, this important painting seems to be one of the first of a series where Pissarro moved away from neo-impressionism to develop a more shimmering palette and a freer technique. Nature morte aux grenades et figues by Renoir will also be presented; in addition to its remarkable provenance – including Paul Durand-Ruel, Oskar Reinhardt and Paul Cassirer, three of the greatest collectors of impressionist art – this work shows both the painter’s talent and taste for still lifes. Among other highlights of this sale is a remarkable bronze by Camille Claudel, La valse. Conceived in 1895 and cast as early as 1905, this bronze remained unknown in a private French collection for four generations. Of an infinite charm, La valse demonstrates the genius of the exceptional sculptor who was Camille Claudel.
