Sale Overview

The Bordeaux School will be a highlight of the sale with 12 artworks by Jean Dupas and Raphaël Delorme from a private French collection. Blending academic references with Cubist characteristics, their strange and sophisticated style is in harmony with the refined luxury of the Roaring Twenties . Two sculptures from the estate of Georges Jouve will also be presented including a couple in glazed terracotta made of purely abstract forms – a unique piece that has always remained with the family. A coffee table by Diego Giacometti will also be presented: it was given by the artist to his friend the American writer and journalist Robert Wernick who published an article celebrating him as an independent artist from Alberto in 1974 in the International Herald Tribune. Animal sculpture will also be widely represented with a ?jaguar assis' by Rembrandt Bugatti and a 1909 ?grande girafe tête basse' from a private European collection which was exhibited in 1913 in Rome at the Prima esposizione internazionale d'Arte della Secessione. A hippopotamus by Francois Pompon and a daring fountain depicting a frog fighting four large snails complete this section.
