Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale

Sale Overview

Freddie de Rougemont, Head of Day Sale, Christie’s London: “We are pleased with the results of the Old Master & British Paintings day sale which realised the highest total for a Day Sale since 2008. The auction witnessed energetic bidding across all categories, underlining the renewed strength in the middle market for Old Masters and building on the success of the June sale in New York and the April sale at Christie’s South Kensington. We are particularly pleased with the result achieved for Antonio Zucchi’s superb portrait of the architect James Adam, which sold for £374,500 setting a new auction record for the artist. Notable prices were also achieved for Thomas Jones’s small oil sketch of the Roman campagna (£164,500) and an exceptionally rare pair of landscapes by the Russian artist, Feodor Mikhailovich Matveev (£158,500).”
