Post War and Contemporary Art Evening Auction
Sale Overview
This October, Christie’s celebrates Frieze Week in London with four auctions of exceptional work from across the 20th and 21st centuries. The Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Auction is headlined by Gerhard Richter’s Schädel (Skull), one of the most poignant paintings ever produced by the artist, alongside major works by Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Jeff Koons, Yves Klein, Piero Manzoni, Georg Baselitz and Keith Haring.
Highlighted collections include Beyond the Monochrome – an exceptional trio of masterpieces by Manzoni, Klein and Fontana, who together forged a new era in 20th-century art – and works from the personal collection of the influential gallerist Paul Maenz, who had a pivotal impact on the international art world during the 1970s and 1980s, introducing new waves of avant-garde artists to both European and American audiences.
