Australian Art-Online
Sale Overview
The Australian Art Online sale spans the 20th century, with paintings ranging from John Peter Russell’s impressionist landscapes from the early 1900s to Sidney Nolan’s post-war modernist repertoire: Nolan’s subjects offered including Ned Kelly, Antarctica, Paradise Garden and China – all works dating to Nolan’s prolific output from the 1950s to the 1980s. Alongside these other artists in the sale include Florence Fuller and Rupert Bunny, with paintings from their expatriate years at turn of the century, Arthur Boyd, John Brack, and Albert Tucker with pictures and watercolours painted in post-war Melbourne, and William Dobell’s enchanting late self-portrait and study for ‘Sex Kitten’ sketched in oil on top and bottom of a cigarette tin in 1971.
