Post-War and Contemporary Art: Amsterdam
Sale Overview
Christie’s Amsterdam is pleased to present Post-War & Contemporary Art, an online-only auction live for bidding from 2-18 June. The sale comprises lots across the entire post-war era, including works on paper, paintings and sculpture.
Paintings by Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Miquel Barcelo, Julian Schnabel and A. R. Penck encapsulate the diverse approaches to visual representation that artists have taken during the last 80 years, with Nay’s pre-war painting from 1938, based on his exile to Norway to an early, subtle work on damast by Penck. Sculptures by Yayoi Kusama, Ulrich Rückriem, Tony Cragg, Shinkichi Tajiri and Pablo Atchugarry broadcast the vast array of the medium, from small to monumental, from bronze to marble and fabric, from robust to fragile. Small gems can also be discovered, such as the work on paper by Rose Wylie and an intriguing collage on board by Daniel Spoerri.
