ANNIE ET JEAN DALSACE, Les collections de la Maison de Verre

ANNIE ET JEAN DALSACE, Les collections de la Maison de Verre

Sale Overview

On October 7th, Christie's Paris will have the privilege of presenting the historic collections of Annie Bernheim-Dalsace and Jean Dalsace at auction.

In 1918, Annie and Jean Dalsace, then newlyweds, commissioned Pierre Chareau the furnishings for their flat 195 Bd Saint-Germain, thus marking the beginning of his career and a lasting friendship with the architect and his wife, Dollie. Their collection was to grow steadily over the years and was completed by numerous other creations including his masterpiece the Maison de Verre (1928-1932), a true architectural myth of the 20th century.

Along a corpus of around sixty pieces of furniture by Pierre Chareau preserved in the Dalsace family from the outset and illustrating his absolute singularity as a designer, this collection will present pieces by Georges Braque, Giorgio de Chirico, Pablo Picasso or Max Ernst along with tapestries by Jean Lurçat, bearing witness to Annie and Jean Dalsace's artistic commitment and their friendship with the gallerist and editor Jeanne Bucher.

The sale of the Collections of the ‘Maison de Verre’ will be a real event on the art market and will not fail to leave its mark.
