Sale Overview
On 2 December, Christie's Paris will be offering an exceptional selection of 20th and 21st century works at its Design sale. More than 200 works by prestigious artists such as Jean Dunand, Eugène Printz, Jean Royère, Georges Jouve, Jean Prouvé, Serge Mouille, Philippe Hiquily and Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne will be presented. This auction will also feature important Art Deco pieces, including rare works by Marc du Plantier, Ernest Boiceau and Armand-Albert Rateau.
A unique private collection is being sold at the event. It will include a straw marquetry set by Jean Royère, commissioned directly from the artist in 1951 which has remained in the family.
Following the sale of these iconic pieces, works by post-war French designers will be presented. These will include a large sideboard by Jean Prouvé from the Ferembal collection, a historic bureau by Philippe Hiquily originally commissioned by Louise de Vilmorin and an iconic Rhinocéros Mécanique by François-Xavier Lalanne.
The sale will pay tribute to Italian design, with a selection of works tracing nearly a century of design from Carlo Bugatti to Ettore Sottsass.
