Christie’s is excited to present our Impressionist and Modern Works on Paper and Day Sale, taking place on 14 May in New York. The Works on Paper session includes an array of top-quality drawings, pastels, gouaches and collages from leading artistic voices from the Impressionists through the Surrealists. Including a dynamic selection of works by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Edgar Degas, Odilon Redon and many more skilled draughtsmen, the sale celebrates a comprehensive range of key movements from this period. The sale will also feature two important examples by Paul Klee from the Alfred and Alma Hitchcock collection. For over 40 years, Christie’s dedicated Works on Paper Sale has celebrated this unique category as a platform for connoisseurial collecting of this medium rich in experimentation and invention.
Our Day Sale session presents a curated selection of works featuring paintings and sculptures by top artists of the 20th century. Led by Claude Monet’s impressive Soleil couchant, temps brumeux, Pourville from The Collection of Salvador and Christina Lang Assaël, the sale includes strong examples across the Impressionist and Modern art categories by artists such as Marc Chagall, Giorgio Morandi, Camille Pissarro and Alfred Sisley. The sale also features two top highlights by Latin American artists Wifredo Lam and Joaquin Torres-García, and a wonderful selection of decorative arts by Alberto Giacometti, including the rare Coupe oblongue.
