Old Masters

Sale Overview

Spanning five centuries of European Art, this May, Christie’s is pleased to present Old Masters Week in New York. Headlining the sale is Giuseppe Vermiglio’s Caravaggesque interpretation of Christ before Pilate. Additional highlights include Jacob Isaacsz. van Ruisdael’s The tower of Kostverloren on the river Amstel, and Marten van Cleve’s early composition, Interior of a farmhouse with a wet nurse. British art is also well represented with works by Benjamin West, Tilly Kettle and Nathaniel Dance-Holland. Rounding out the sale is a wonderful selection of floral still lives from Balthasar van der Ast, capricci by Giovanni Paolo Panini and Pierre-Antoine Patel, as well as portraits by Lucas Cranach the Younger, Nicolas de Largilliere and Louis Leopold Boilly.
