20th Century Day Sale
Sale Overview
Featuring works by Asian masters bridging the East and the West, as well as their prominent contemporaries in Europe and the Americas, the 20th Century Art Day Sale traces how modern art has traversed time and borders. Sanyu’s only known painting of a pink zebra will lead the sale, followed by two abstract paintings by Zao Wou-ki. Works by fellow Asian luminaries, such as Chu Teh-Chun, Chen Yifei and Ju Ming will converse with those by celebrated artists from the West such as Pablo Picasso, Fernando Botero, and a group of eight Marc Chagall works on paper from the Estate of the artist. The sale will simultaneously present an exciting lineup of paintings by Korean modern art pioneers including Kim Whan-ki, Kim Tschang-yeul and Lee Ufan. Female artists such as Lynne Drexler, Lalan, Rhee Seundja and Pacita Abad, will take center stage.
The sale also features iconic works by prominent artists from Southeast Asia. Lively works by Indonesian artists, Affandi, Adrien-Jean le Mayeur de Merprès, Arie Smit and Dullah, will be presented alongside abstract paintings by Filipino artists including Fernando Zobel and Lee Aguinaldo, and exquisite works by Singaporean artists, such as Cheong Soo Pieng and Chen Wen Hsi. Adorned by a group of 3 sculptures by Vu Cao Dam, the selection of works by Vietnamese masters including Nguyen Nam Son, Mai Trung Thu and Le Pho, is not to be missed. Further highlights include six modern Burmese paintings from a private Asian collection, notably ones by U Ngwe Gaing and U San Win. This eclectic ensemble brings forth a remarkable opportunity to acquire exceptional artwork for any distinguished collector’s taste.
