20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale

20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale

Sale Overview

Christie’s London will host its 20th/21st Century Evening Sale on 28 June 2023, featuring significant works by some of the period’s most compelling artists.

Select highlights explore the theme of our relationship with nature, led by Paul Signac’s pointillist composition Calanque des Canoubiers (Pointe de Bamer), Saint-Tropez. Elsewhere, visions of selfhood predominate, be that of artists painting other artists, as in Jean-Michel Basquiat’s portrait of Pablo Picasso, Untitled (Pablo Picasso) or artists depicting themselves, seen, for example, in Howard Hodgkin’s The Spectator and Edgar Degas’ early self-portrait.

The sale will include a striking selection of works from both the Gerald Fineberg Collection and the Thomas and Doris Ammann Collection and, to mark the 50th anniversary of Picasso’s death, will also present Tête de femme from the Berggruen Family Collection. With works from Marc Chagall and Camille Pissarro, to Louis Fratino and Caroline Walker, the sale invites conversation between Impressionist, Modern, and Contemporary art.
