Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds including Rugs and Carpets

This April, Christie’s London will present the live auction Art of the Islamic and Indian Words including Rugs and Carpets. Leading the sale is an extensively illustrated and illuminated copy of the Khamsas of both Nizami and Dihlavi, a splendid example of 17^th century Safavid manuscript production. Alongside this are a number of important private collections including Gardens of Silk, which led by an exceptional Safavid figural velvet panel. Further highlights include early Iranian ceramics from a Private American Collection as well as Persian and Indian paintings from the Collection of Charles and Regina Slatkin which includes a rare work by the Bukhara artist Mahmud Muzahhib.

The Carpet section is led by Sultans of Silk: The George Farrow Collection (download catalogue), which is a comprehensive study of the very best of silk rug weaving of the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries gathered over forty years by the late George Farrow. Highlights from other private collections in the sale include a rare Mughal silk rug gifted to the Corcoran Museum of Art by Senator Wililam A. Clarke, and a late 15^th century Ottoman Court Ushak carpet woven under the reign of Sultan Mehmed II Fatih.

The auction will be available to view in person at our King Street galleries from the 20^th through to the 24^th April.
