Sale Overview
Offering timeless masterpieces by famous artists from the 8th through the 19th centuries, Christie's Hong Kong will present the Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy sale on 1 June 2024 to celebrate the historical art traditions of China. Highlights of the auction include Wang Duo’s Five-Character Poem in Cursive Script, formerly in the collection of Halin (1856-1934); the Wu School Master Shen Zhou’s Landscape in the Style of Zhao Mengfu, and Zhu Yunming’s Poems in Cursive Script, previously in the collection of the scholar-official Wang Li (1616-1692).
In addition to masterpieces by Wen Zhengming, Dong Qichang and Fa Ruozhen, the sale also presents rare and important works such as Mahāyāna Mahāparinirvāna Sūtra No. 26 from Tang Dynasty, and the Capture of the Chief Traitor Shi Dakai / Imperial Decree made by the Qing Court.
