Sale Overview
This season, Christie’s 20th and 21st Century Art Evening Sales are proud to feature seminal masterpieces by leading masters of the modern era together with international contemporary artists. The sale preview will be held from 24-28 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The evening sale is led by a constellation of iconic works from pivotal periods of individual artists. Leading the sale is American Pop forerunner Andy Warhol’s Flowers and monumental landscape painting Shangri-La by Matthew Wong converses with Yoshitomo Nara’s Rock You and Yayoi Kusama’s Untitled (Pumpkin sculpture). Surrealist René Magritte’s captivating L’invitation au voyage and memermising triptych BUDS by Yayoi Kusama both demonstrates the artists’ unparalleled visual vocabularies. Meanwhile, Lingering Melodies from the Xunyang River by Chen Yifei joins 10.01.68 by Zao Wou-Ki who explore their Eastern cultural heritage by connecting the East and West; past and present. The sale will also feature important works by Western artists such as Nicolas Party, Wayne Thiebaud, Roy Lichtenstein together with prominent works by Eastern masters including Sanyu, Wu Guanzhong, Georgette Chen, and Liu Ye.
