Impressionist and Modern Art Day Sale

Impressionist and Modern Art Day Sale

Sale Overview

Following our $204.8 million Evening Sale on Wednesday, Christie’s achieved a combined $39,688,775 (£25,003,928/€30,957,245) on Thursday through its popular Works on Paper and Day sales. ?

David Kleiweg de Zwaan, Head of the Works on Paper Sale, and Stefany Sekara Morris, Head of the Day Sale, noted: “In an echo of the record-setting result achieved Wednesday evening for Kandinsky, our top lot of the Day sale of Impressionist & Modern Art was “Rapallo, Boote” (pictured above right), a rare early seascape by the artist. The richly-textured work was chased by multiple bidders, and ultimately sold to an American bidder for $1 million, well over its pre-sale estimate. Our morning session of Works on Paper continues to draw in a strong contingent of devoted collectors, who gathered to compete for works by Klee, Picasso, Magritte and Chagall, driving strong results for each.” ?
