Sale Overview
Total: HK$60,670,000 / US$7,862,832 / £5,047,744 / €6,382,484
"We saw two new world auction records in our inaugural Chinese Contemporary Ink auction, “Scenery of Hong Kong” by Liu Kuo-sung (B. 1932) and “30 Letters to Qiu Jiawa” by Qiu Zhijie (B. 1969). The saleroom was full of energy, with enthusiastic bidding from across Asia, the Americas and Europe. The selection of artists was very well received, in particular Hong Kong artists who made their debut appearances at Christie's auctions, such as Koon Wai Bong (B. 1974), Leung Kui Ting (B. 1945) and Wucius Wong (B. 1936), as well as Taiwanese artist Lee Chun-Yi (B. 1965). This inaugural sale is a strong start to a regular series of auctions and we look forward to continuing to promote contemporary works in the traditional medium of ink and brush through the international platform that Christie's provides,? said Carmen Shek Cerne, Associate Vice President of Christie's Asia and Specialist of Christie's Hong Kong Chinese Paintings Department.
