Oeuvres Modernes sur papier
Sale Overview
The inaugural sale of Modern Works on Paper will feature Pablo Picasso’s Femme Assise, illustrating one of the artist’s main themes, the seated woman. Drawn on an unusually large scale, this work is a rare representation of a full-length seated Dora Maar and will be offered at auction for the first time. An important gouache by the painter Kees van Dongen, Parade du cirque, will also be offered: this work, remarkable for its dynamic and luminous lines, was executed in 1904, a key year for the artist that saw his first exhibition at the Salon des Indépendants and his meeting with Vlaminck and Matisse, on the eve of the birth of Fauvism.
