Christie’s sale of books and manuscripts on 29 April in Paris will offer a rich selection of early printing and works from the 19th and 20th centuries, including an important collection of natural history devoted to ornithology. Highlights also include some of the greats of French literature, notably a rare edition of the works of Rabelais, important corrected proofs by Balzac, a valuable notebook belonging to Victor Hugo containing numerous poems and drawings, and Proust’s pocket diary filled with autograph notes for his À la recherche du temps perdu as well as 19 letters from the author to Mme de Caillavet. Finally, works by Salvador Dalí will be offered alongside the lithographs of Toulouse-Lautrec’s Cirque as well as a rare copy of Accordez-moi une audience, illustrated by Survage.
