Photographies contemporaines
Sale Overview
Christie’s Paris is pleased to devote a sale to contemporary photographs for the first time with 61 prints by some of the greatest artists of the 20th century such as Hamish Fulton, Thomas Ruff, John Coplans, Wolfgang Tillmans, Vik Muniz and Hans Peter Feldmann. The highlight of this sale will be the spectacular group of 27 prints realised in 1999 by Hiroshi Sugimoto. For this series, which was initiated by the Berlin Guggenheim Museum, Sugimoto photographed the wax figures in London’s Madame Tussauds Museum, drawing his inspiration from Renaissance portraits. From this unique series, which was offered to the museum, Sugimoto selected a few images for a limited edition in very large format. A selection of contemporary works from the Bernard Lamarche-Vadel collection will pay tribute to the artists he supported from the outset, such as Sophie Calle with a work from the series Les Dormeurs.
