Collection Kaspar M. Fleischmann vendue au profit du Centre de Photographie de l'Université de Zurich

Sale Overview

Works from the collection of Kaspar M. Fleischmann will be offered on the 175th anniversary of the birth of photography to benefit the Center for Studies in the Theory and History (TGF) of Photography at the University of Zürich. Kaspar M. Fleischmann, founder of the Galerie Zur Stockeregg in Zurich, established the photography sector of Art Basel and co-founded the AIPAD Photography Show New York and Paris Photo. He also made major donations to the photographic collections of Kunsthaus Zürich and Fotomuseum Winterthur. The first part of the sale brings together over 150 works, including vintage prints dating from the 1920s to the 1950s by some of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. Highlights include 27 views of Paris, New York and Amsterdam by Ilse Bing; a Richard Avedon portrait of Charlie Chaplin; and works by Brassaï, Ernst Haas, Walker Evans and Germaine Krull. A rare and complete set – probably the only one still in private ownership in Europe – of 50 editions of the iconic quarterly Camera Work edited and published by Alfred Stieglitz will also be presented.
